The Orfalea Children's Center Lab School, housed in the Family and Consumer Education Center (building J), provides quality care for infants and preschoolers between three months and five years of age. The center serves as the lab school for Early Childhood Studies students who assist the credentialed staff in providing an enriched learning environment designed to foster social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth for young children.
The philosophy of the program is to provide each child with the tools and the opportunity to be actively involved in the learning process, to experience a variety of developmentally appropriate activities and materials, and to pursue his/her own interests. As an integral part of the Early Childhood Studies program, the center provides a multicultural, anti-bias inclusion approach where children have the opportunity to experience differences in gender, race/ethnicity, abilities, learning styles, and individual needs.
The center is available to student parents en-rolled in nine or more units during fall and spring semesters, six or more units during summer session, and/or CalWORKs or Title V participants. Limited staff spaces are available. Applications from student parents taking less than the minimum units are accepted on a space-available basis. An orientation session is required prior to enrollment.

Our mission is simple, our impact is huge
CAC – Creating opportunities for Santa Barbara families to achieve stability.
Our History
The Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara County (CAC) started in 1964 as a 15-member Community Action Committee that was appointed by the County Board of Supervisors. CAC was incorporated as a private non-profit organization in May of 1967. In October of that year, CAC began operating a seniors program, and in 1969 started an adult job-training program. CAC has gradually expanded to to include the wide array of programs available today including:
Learning experiences and high quality care for children age 0-5
Job training, education, and mentoring for teens and young adults
Leadership, involvement, and educational opportunities for parents
Healthy daily meals for children and seniors
Improvements that make homes warmer, safer and more energy-efficient
Many highly successful local programs – including the Community Housing Corporation, the Friendship Center, Shelter Services for Women, and Easy Lift – had their beginnings at CAC, then moved into their own right within the community.
Although we’ve made incredible progress in the fight against poverty – now at approximately 15% of the population– there’s still plenty of work to do. And we are committed to ending poverty in Santa Barbara County.

KinderKirk Preschool is a state licensed childcare center, serving families with children ages 2 years through entering Kindergarten. We are a Registered Demonstration Site of the Outdoor Classroom Network, which means that our children spend about 80% of their time outside (in all kinds of weather) learning through hands on activities. We provide a flexible and nurturing environment that enables children to take charge of their own learning and purse their interests. You will often find our teachers in the background, observing, asking questions and letting the children direct where the activity goes. That’s not so say the Teachers don’t teach…but they do so, to expand upon the knowledge the children gain from their discoveries and innate sense of wonder.
We believe Play is the utmost important vehicle for a child’s learning. We let Nature and Nurture be the methods in which children are taught. “The academics” are learned, through every day hands on activities rather than worksheets, flash cards and route methods.
We are a Mission of the Carpinteria Community Church which is loosely affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Children attend a weekly Chapel service where they listen to a Bible story, sing songs and praise God. Children pray before meals and observe religious holidays but we also talk about secular holiday icons. We welcome all families, regardless of their faith.
The Mission of Kinderkirk Preschool is to provide a quality, nurturing, Christian Educational experience for all families, children and staff while we serve the Carpinteria community.

Vision: To provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to children and their families through licensed, professionally staffed early childhood education programs including Preschool, Prekindergarten, After-School, and Summer Camp programs.
At Cliff Drive Care Center, we support you, as parent or guardian, as primary teachers of your children. We make collaboration and communication with your home a priority, and we hope to be a resource for you by providing parent workshops, parents' night out childcare, and parent education opportunities.
During your child’s time here, we encourage emotional, physical, social, and cognitive growth with curriculum tailored to each stage of development. We believe children operate best within a simple set of guidelines: to take care of others, take care of yourself, and take care of our environment. We work to create a warm and loving environment where children have meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers as teachers assist children in becoming independent and responsible. We promote creativity and kinesthetic learning through playtime activities and through utilizing our outdoor classroom, letting child initiated exploration and curiosity lead the way.

Gomez Family Child Care
Gomez Family Child Care has been active for Thirteen years. I have my Accreditation and I am a member of NAFCC, QRIS and participate in the Santa Barbara Food Program. I have a large capacity license which consists of a mixed group of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. I provide care both full-time and part-time, Monday-Friday. As a mixed group, the younger children can learn from the older group. I try to join the groups in reading and singing activities. I notice that by the time the infants are in the talking stage they know the melody and some words. We do a lot of sharing, even if they cannot be understood. I have them stand-up and share and we clap hands for them. This helps them feel like they are part of the group and makes them happy and not afraid of sharing and speaking-out as they grow older.
Activities consists of Water and Sand Play, Active Play, Manipulatives, Dramatic Play, Blocks, Math, Science, Art, Literacy, Music, and Hygiene. We enjoy taking in the nature that surrounds my home as we go on many nature walks to see and interact with insects, lizards, birds, cows, horses, chickens, a cat, bushes and trees. My home is on a large lot which gives the children the freedom to run and play outside when the weather permits.

Dear Parents, I want to thank you for considering Holford's Lil Jungle Family Childcare and Preschool for your childcare needs. What I offer your family is much more than a baby sitting service. I offer a loving, safe and educational environment for your child to grow in. I understand how difficult it can be for working parents to balance all of their commitments and responsibilities in their lives. For this reason, I strive to offer a program that will enrich your child's development while putting your mind at ease. We believe that each child grows and develops in a sequential manner at his/her own pace. Each stage of development requires more complex behavior and thought process by the child. Children learn by interacting with observing, and experiencing the world of objects and people. Each child is curious and actively initiates their learning. Developmentally appropriate activities and routines are planned each day to offer each child many opportunities for challenge and success. Our "free-flow" based program offers opportunities for fostering independence, creativity and self-esteem. Children have the freedom to make choices in a safe and stimulating environment. Sincerely Blanche Holford

I provide quality care at home. Full time from Monday to Friday 7:30 am -4: 30 pm. We offer homemade meals, prepared daily. Meet the licensing requirements of the state of California. It has a creative space that is clean and safe 100% designed to help the child's development. We have different types of animals such as chickens, rabbits, dogs, and cats. So that children can also interact with them and have the opportunity of a fun environment with the surrounding nature. That has been very effective in them. Losing fears, learning to care, love to respect nature. Our goal is to create a positive learning environment where your children are safe, cared for, loved, and able to learn so many new things.
Finally, we are proud to have this opportunity to be part of these children's stages of their life.
Feel free to make an appointment with me for more information

Mary

Curriculum is designed to facilitate cognitive, emotional, physical, social and creative growth. Cognitive materials, literacy, music, art and imaginative play are provided in a developmentally appropriate setting. There is also a specialized component to benefit children learning English. Curriculum is designed to provide language-rich activities and to support the ethnic and cultural diversity of the children. Children benefit from participation in a free breakfast, hot lunch and snack program enjoying healthy meals cooked on site. This nutrition program is part of a larger commitment to health and wellness at our "Green Childcare" certified program.
The infant and toddler program pairs children with a primary caregiver for the first two years of care. Primary caregiving provides security and continuity of care for children in their first school experience. In addition, our infant/toddler program is breastfeeding friendly and individualized schedules are created based on each child's needs. A secure environment provides age appropriate activities to stimulate younger children and support the ever changing physical needs of infants and toddlers. Infants and toddlers each enjoy separate playgrounds from the preschoolers to meet their physical needs.
The State Preschool Program is targeted to provide 3- and 4-year old children with a pre-kindergarten experience they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. Parents of children in the program are provided with additional education and support to help their children succeed in school. The program curriculum provides pre-kindergarten children with the skills that will enable them to make a smooth transition to kindergarten.
Additionally, Kindergartners are served after school and full day during the summer months in our classroom adjacent to the Isla Vista elementary school campus. The After School Kinder Program continues to promote their learning through kinder carriculum designed to provide the students with the additional support they need to continue succeeding in their early education and prepare them for entering the first grade.

Welcome to Little Shining Stars Preschool! Our goal is to provide a positive environment where each individual child is respected, nurtured, supported and challenged. During each new school year, the teachers prepare the classroom's curriculum by taking into consideration each child's culture, developmental activities that will help enhance the developmental needs of each individual child, and the meaningful age appropriate materials that will support, enhance, ignite and challenge each child. Throughout the day, children have ongoing opportunities to develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers. Social interactions, turn taking, listening, reasoning, problem solving are all encouraged during the child's preschool day. The children are offered, a variety of hands on learning centers that give each one the opportunity to learn and develop the skills and knowledge they will need in their everyday world. Art, math, science experiments, reading, writing, music and movement, dramatic play, gardening, block play, sand, water, mud, bicycle riding, sliding, swinging, animal interactions are just to name a few of the offered opportunities. Due to the children's variety of ongoing open ended learning opportunities offered here at the Little Shining Stars Preschool, this will give each of them a positive jump start in preparing them with the skills needed for kindergarten.

Lozano Family Child Care believe that teachers are second in importance, only after parents, in the lives of children. The years of the children are the foundation of the scenario for lifelong learning and preschool teachers help children develop the skills needed to be successful in elementary school. I think it's my job to make sure that children are safe and that their learning is fun,
According to my experience, you think children learn best with interactive activities. In my classroom we read many books, sing, and dance, we use our imagination in creative activities.

Young Learners State Preschool strives to help children love learning, to be "thinkers" and "creators". We use the California Department of Education Preschool Framework as a foundation for learning. Teachers follow childrens' lead, observing their play and sometimes challenging them to expand on their play. We love to learn about the world through books, the outdoors, play and exploration. We learn how to be good friends to one another by communicating wants and needs and validating feelings. We build community through teamwork; taking care of our classroom and having fun together.

Our motto is all about growth. How can we encourage children to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually? How can we guide children to reach their fullest potential? How do we begin to teach children about their own creative selves? These are the challenging questions we ask ourselves. And these are the questions that help us make teaching decisions in our day-to-day curriculum.
Although we appreciate the traditional style of teaching, Seeds strives for a uniquely different learning experience. We are an up-and-coming Montessori-inspired child care. We want our children to explore their environment using all their senses and develop their minds through their natural surroundings. The Montessori Method allows children to grow at their own pace. It allows children to be creative, innovative, and persistent while staying motivated. It reinforces their own special individuality and promotes competition within themselves instead of competing with others or being held to a higher standard assumed by a traditional learning curriculum.
Through observation, multimodal learning, and mixed-aged classrooms we foster the independent thinker who will become the visionary entrepreneur: We support the esteemed performers, accomplished musicians, and tech innovators. And we aim to further the mindful citizen and advance the practical human. To attain these goals, we must ultimately instill in our children an optimistic mindset with the idea that they can accomplish anything.

Family child care in a “home like” setting is the best alternative there is for working parents. It provides a small secure environment for children during the most important time of their development. Family child care offers a home away from home, providing children with “siblings” of all ages, to play, socialize, and learn from. My goal in providing quality child care for your child is to provide…
• A safe environment
• A nurturing environment
• A learning environment… learning is not necessarily the ABC’s and 123’s, but is also the learning of values. The learning of honesty, respect, self–reliance, and potential, self-discipline, and moderation, the values of being; dependable, love, sensitivity to others, kindness, friendliness and fairness are the values of giving.

STUDENT RESOURCE BLDG. UCSB, Santa Barbara, California, 93106

CENTER PROGRAMS
Early Childhood Care and Education Services serves families with young children in two centers at UCSB, the Orfalea Family Children’s Center (OFCC) on West Campus and the University Children’s Center (UCC) at the Student Resource Building on the main campus.
INFANT AND TODDLER PROGRAM:
The Infant/Toddler programs at OFCC and UCC serve children three months to three years, grouped by developmental age, in eight full day classrooms with some part time spaces available. The Infant Program philosophy emphasizes respect for the infant as an individual and encourages each infant to be an active participant in their interactions with other infants, caregivers and their family. In the Toddler classrooms, children have many opportunities to receive individual attention from their caregivers in a positive and nurturing manner. Toddlers enjoy daily activities that include sensory play, art activities, music, group times for stories and songs, manipulatives, and outside play with tricycles, climbing structures, playhouse, wagons, and push toys as well as planned activities.
PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: (OFCC only)
The Preschool provides full day and part time placements for children ages three to five years. This program provides a well-balanced curriculum with emphasis on children's social/emotional skills and developing sense of self as learner. The multi-age groupings encourage pro-social behavior and an enriched cognitive environment. This setting ensures that children's needs (intellectual, physical, emotional, social and creative) are appropriately met at a variety of levels. The curriculum includes many activities: science and nature (gardening, cooking, pet care, nature study), creative art activities and projects, dramatic play, sensory experiences, large muscle activities, early literacy activities, language arts activities, music, and math awareness through hands-on manipulation of objects in the environment. There is a special focus on self awareness and the appreciation of diversity within the classroom. Daily group times provide opportunities for sharing, music, and stories; families are encouraged to participate in the daily experiences.
